Long ago, we thought miserable old Bud Selig was just kidding when he thought of the slogan "This Time It Counts" for the All-Star Game after he "fixed" it. How can you make the All-Star Game "meaningful"? It's an exhibition! And it's not even played in a contenders park most years, it's just given to whoever renovates/builds a new stadium in appeasement.
Well, with the Tigers advancing Sunday, I'd like to bring up some data points from the years since the tied ASG.
2003 All-Star Game: Held at Comiskey. 2005 White Sox: Win World Series.
2004 All-Star Game: Held at Minute Maid. 2005 Astros: Advance to World Series.
2005 All-Star Game: Held at Comerica. 2006 Tigers: Advance (at least) to World Series.
I'd like to congratulate the Pirates in advance on their World Series apperance in 2007/2008, and the Giants on theirs in 2008/2009. This Time It Counts is the precursor to baseball that actually does count, apparently.
